Volleyball Victoria would like to congratulate all the athletes who attended the 2016 Volleyball Victoria State Beach Team Trials over the weekend 21-22 November 2015.
The weather conditions for most of Saturday were quite a challenge for the athletes with a little rain, a chill in the air and strong winds throughout the day. Parents also struggled trying to keep warm on the beach and out of the wind, some however where quite prepared with blankets, umbrellas and of course lots of coffee. Sunday was when the sun really came out, South Melbourne beach was picture perfect, and athletes really did get to experience varied conditions throughout the trials.
Without the tireless contributions and from all the parents, volunteer coaches, assistants, and selectors the trials would not have been such a success. We would like to extend our thanks to all the selection coaches who volunteered their time over the weekend; Grace, Ron, Will, Monika, Joey, Clinton, Nic, Natasha, Marta, Ellen and Pat. Thanks to Al at VicBeach for his assistance arranging the courts over the weekend.
We must also thank the young volunteers; Alek Ryan, Jack Gregory and Emmeline Ashley who assisted to run drills and skills sessions on Saturday. We would like specially thank Damien Schumann for volunteering his time all day Saturday, putting the 95 trialling athletes through their paces with skills sessions and drills.
Damien is an Elite Beach Volleyball player and represents Australia with his teammate Josh Court. The pair has just returned from playing a number of open tournaments in October/November in Indonesia, Turkey, Cook Islands & Qatar. Follow them on their Beach Volleyball journey competing on the VicBeach, Asian, National, and World Tours! www.facebook.com/courtschumann. It was great having Damien at the trials and a fantastic opportunity for our young Victorian athletes to get tips from an athlete with such exceptional knowledge and experience on the sand.
Volleyball Australia has confirmed official eligible entry of x2 teams from each age group into the AJBVC tournament in Adelaide in April 2016. Volleyball Victoria in consultation with selection coaches, is currently putting together a squad of eight (8) athletes per age group who will be invited back to take part in the upcoming Round 3 event of the VicBeach Volleyball series on 29 November. Results from this upcoming event will be added to the initial trial notes and results, all information will then be collated and contribute to the final decision to announce the representative teams, and emergency athletes.
SQUADS ANNOUNCED HERE Wednesday 25 November.
Final teams will be announced early January.
Volleyball Victoria would like to again thank all those involved in the trials and look forward to seeing the selected squads progress in training over the summer, in preparation for them to represent Victoria in April 2016.
