Australia defeated by Japan 0-3, 15:25, 11:25, 13:25

1st Set
Molloy, Coleman, Iles, Karrasch, Smith, Tipping. Libero-Adam

Japan serve out first serve of the game.  Coleman serves to position 1 then digs Japan attack, Molloy sets Iles for the kill. Australia ahead 2:0.  Smith solo blocks at 3:3 to give Australia back the lead. Japan tip wide. Australia serves long. Japan strong serves, puts pressure on the Aussie passers, giving Japan a handy lead.  Japan serves into the net. Molloy combines with Iles who hits through the middle for a winner deep in position 5.  Australians sticking with the game plan, forcing Japan to hit line, just not able to get the defensive ups needed.  Japan lead into technical time out.   Unforced service errors make it difficult to put any pressure on the Japanese team.

2nd Set
Dunning, Coleman, Iles, Schoof, Smith, Tipping. Libero-Petry

Japanís pinpoint accuracy and higher skill level prove dominant in the second set forcing Australia to make many errors.  The Aussie fighting spirit comes through as the girls rally hard and are inspired by a stuff block through the middle by Tipping.  Tough serves from Smith, put too much pressure on the Japanese pass hitter who hits wide, but then tips for an easy winner to take Japan into the 1st Technical timeout. Aussies stay in the rallies with desperate play, chasing balls out of court, strong blocking presence at the net, but just canít sustain it for the full rally.  Aussies work hard to win the point, then make a service error.  Aussies just canít string points together to stay in the match.  Dunning with a solo block wins the point, but then serves long. Aussies chasing shanked balls out of court, unable to reset before the Japanese attack again.  Japan leads at the 2nd Technical time out.

3rd Set
Schoof, Smith, Tipping, Dunning, Coleman, Iles. Libero-Adam.

Japan start strongly, hitting winners from all areas of the court.  Tipping combines with Dunning for a kill through the middle to start the Aussies up.  Desperate backcourt from the Aussies produce the longest rally of the game.  Coleman makes a great pick up in the back court, but Japanese block too strong.  Iles serving strongly, has Japan shanking 2 balls out of court.  Japan sort out their passing and hit the next winner.  Molloy sets Coleman who hits a winner deep in 5. Aussies struggle with the Japan serve.  Japan takes out the set and game.
