Vic Open 2017 was an amazing success! Along with Open Menís and Womenís Divisions, for the first time the tournament was also opened to Junior divisions catering for Under 15 boys and Girls and Under 17 girls.

In all, a record 43 teams played 96 games of volleyball across 7 divisions, at 3 venues on Saturday and 2 venues on Sunday. Run for the first time by the Open Womenís team from Mornington Volleyball Club, the tournament was well supported by Al Lyne with structuring of the draw, Hall Managers Phil de Salvo, Genevieve Ryan and Nic Ryan.

With Chief Referee Mathew Lawton in charge, the games ran like clockwork! Special thanks also goes to Barry Maguire (Monash Uni) and Tom Saario (Korumburra) for loaning equipment, and Luke Campbell for advice on the draw. Also this year, we trialled results input and ladder generation via the SportTG website. This system was simple to use with results rapidly published and available online; a system well received by all participants.

Results:

Under 15 Girls, Rowville defeated South Gippsland

Under 15 Boys, Rowville defeated McKinnon Blue

Under 17 Girls, GMVA defeated South Gippsland

Menís Div 2, Frozen Tofu defeated Aces

Womenís Div 2, Frozen Tofu defeated Monash

Menís Div 1, Mornington Redbacks defeated Monash Blue

Womenís Div 1, Hawks defeated Dandenong in a cliff-hanger, with match point being traded back and forth 3 or 4 times in the deciding set.
