Ballarat claims a long-awaited tournament win

The hosts have claimed a title at the Volleyball Ballarat Skins Tournament for the first time in more than 20 years.

The Ballarat side, captained by Matthew Hallowell, took out the division one men’s category after defeating Q Redbacks, from Melbourne, in a five-set classic at the weekend.

Lasting over two-and-a-half hours, the match was decided 15-13 in the final set.

In men's division two, the Bendigo Academy of Sport team defeated Melbourne's USC Lion in the decider, while in division three, the Wallabies Masters won the final against the Sunraysia Academy of Sport. The Wallabies were captained by Volleyball Ballarat life member Peter Hassell.

Frozen Tofu beat Dandenong 3-0 to win the division one women’s event, while Horsham Volleyball Academy also triumphed over Dandenong in the division two women’s final.
Ballarat's division one women were third and division two women fifth.

A total of 21 teams participated in the 39th annual tournament.
