General Manager’s Update

30 June

In the GM’s update this month:

  • Volleyball Nations League
    • Members Mini-survey
  • Board Update
    • Strategic Plan

Volleyball Nations League

Melbourne played host to the best of world-class volleyball over the weekend with reigning World and Olympic Champions Poland and Brazil, joined by Pan-American Champions Argentina, and the helloworld Volleyroos in the final leg of Volleyball Nations League.

While crowd numbers were not as hoped, each of the competing nations had pockets of spectator representation, including those who turned out to see Victorians, Paul Sanderson, Trent O’Dea, Jordan Richards, and Tom Hodges who were no doubt thrilled to be in their home State playing for the Volleyroos.

Volleyball Victoria would like to thank the volunteers who gave their time to act in a variety of capacities; engaging special interest communities, providing information support, energising the crowd, and introducing people to the sport.  We also extend much thanks to the affiliates who supported the event in a range of activations designed to engage and entertain spectators as they made their way into the venue.  This included radar gun for serving, seated and mini-volleyball, and other fun activities.

Volleyball Victoria utilised these activities as an opportunity to distribute promotional flyers identifying affiliate locations and programs, such as Social and Junior competitions, and Spikezone providers.  A promotional video was also on loop in the venue, displaying a diversity of volleyball activities.

Members Mini-survey

Volleyball Victoria would appreciate all members taking two minutes to answer a four-question survey regarding Volleyball Nations League.  You will be asked where you get your volleyball-related news, if you intended to buy tickets, did you attend, and if not, why.

Board Update

The Board takes this opportunity on behalf of the Victorian volleyball community to thank Volleyball Australia for recognising Melbourne as the home of sport and bringing Volleyball Nations League to Victoria, providing a great opportunity for our community to experience the sport played at the highest level.

Many Board members were seen at the event, with President Stephen Conroy accompanying several dignitaries who helped support promotion of the event, including the Ambassadors of Brazil and Argentina, the Consul-General of Poland, State Parliamentarian Telmo Languiller MP, and of course, Volleyball Australia President, Craig Carracher.
